How it works
Calculate weekly pay with the standard 40-hour overtime rule and an overtime rate.
Enter your hourly rate, weekly hours, and an overtime multiplier. The first 40 hours are paid at the regular rate; hours above 40 are paid at the multiplier.
Formula
Regular pay = min(40, hours) × rate; overtime pay = max(0, hours − 40) × rate × multiplier.
rate- Hourly rate (currency/hour)
hours- Weekly hours (hours)
m- Overtime multiplier (1.5 or 2)
Examples
- 20/hour for 45 hours at 1.5×Rate 20 · hours 45 · multiplier 1.5Regular 800 · overtime 150 · total 950
Frequently asked questions
Is 40 hours the rule everywhere?
The 40-hour threshold and 1.5× rate are common in the US. Your entitlement may differ by jurisdiction or contract.
What about double time?
Choose the 2× multiplier to model double-time overtime.
How to read the result
Overtime hours are hours above 40; overtime pay is those hours at the chosen premium rate.
Limitations
Uses the 40-hour weekly threshold and a single multiplier. It does not model daily overtime rules or multiple tiers.
