How it works
Estimate US take-home pay per period from gross pay, withholding rates, and deductions.
Enter your gross pay, pay frequency, federal and state withholding percentages, and any pre-tax and post-tax deductions. The calculator applies the statutory FICA rates (Social Security 6.2% + Medicare 1.45%) and your entered withholding to estimate net pay.
Formula
Taxable = gross − pre-tax. Social Security = taxable × 6.2%; Medicare = taxable × 1.45%; federal = taxable × federal%; state = taxable × state%. Net pay = taxable − taxes − post-tax.
gross- Gross pay per period (currency)
federal- Federal withholding rate (user-entered) (%)
state- State withholding rate (user-entered) (%)
Examples
- 2,000 gross, biweekly, 12% federal, 5% state, 100 pre-taxGross 2,000 · biweekly · federal 12% · state 5% · pre-tax 100≈ 1,431.65 net pay · ≈ 468.35 total taxes
Frequently asked questions
Why do I enter my own withholding rate?
Federal tax brackets change yearly and depend on income, filing status, and deductions. This calculator uses your effective withholding percentage rather than looking up IRS brackets.
Does it include the Social Security wage cap?
No. Social Security is modeled at the flat 6.2% rate without the annual wage-base limit, so high earners will be over-estimated.
How to read the result
Net pay is what reaches you after taxes and deductions. Annual net pay is a simple per-period figure scaled by the number of pay periods per year.
Limitations
US payroll structure only. Ignores the Social Security wage cap, additional Medicare tax, allowances, and state-specific withholding rules. Always verify with a payroll professional.
