How it works
Add, subtract, multiply, or divide two fractions and see the simplified result.
Enter two fractions and choose an operation. The calculator performs the arithmetic, reduces the result to lowest terms, and shows it as a mixed number and a decimal.
Formula
a/b + c/d = (ad + cb) ÷ (bd), with subtraction, multiplication, and division following the standard fraction identities; the result is reduced by the greatest common divisor.
a/b, c/d- The two input fractions (rational)
Examples
- 1/2 + 1/3Numerator 1 · denominator 2 · add · numerator 1 · denominator 35/6 ≈ 0.833333
Frequently asked questions
What if the result is improper?
The calculator reports it as a mixed number (whole part plus a proper fraction) and as a decimal.
Are negative fractions supported?
Yes. The sign is normalized so the denominator is positive and the sign is carried on the numerator and whole part.
How to read the result
The decimal and mixed-number forms describe the same value; the reduced fraction is the exact representation.
Limitations
Integer-only numerators and denominators. Extremely large values may exceed the safe-integer range in intermediate products.
