How it works
Compute a weighted GPA alongside your unweighted GPA from letter grades, credits, and course weights.
Enter letter grades, credit hours, and a weight for each course (0 regular, 0.5 honors, 1 AP/IB). The calculator reports both the weighted and unweighted GPA.
Formula
Weighted GPA = Σ((grade points + weight) × credits) ÷ Σ(credits); unweighted GPA = Σ(grade points × credits) ÷ Σ(credits).
gᵢ- Grade points (4.0 scale) (points)
wᵢ- Course weight (0 / 0.5 / 1)
cᵢ- Credit hours (hours)
Examples
- A, B, A with weights 1, 0, 0.5Grades A,B,A · credits 3,3,4 · weights 1,0,0.5Weighted GPA 4.20 · unweighted 3.70
Frequently asked questions
How does this differ from the GPA calculator?
This one adds a per-course weight for honors/AP/IB classes on a 5.0 scale, and shows the unweighted GPA for comparison.
Are these weights universal?
No. Honors (+0.5) and AP/IB (+1.0) weighting is a common scheme but varies by school. Confirm with your institution.
How to read the result
The weighted GPA rewards harder courses; the unweighted GPA is the standard 4.0 measure of grades alone.
Limitations
Uses one common weighting scheme and a single 4.0 grade-point scale. Follow your school's official policy.
