How it works
Compute the mean (average), median, mode, sum and count of any list of numbers.
Enter a comma-separated list of numbers. The calculator sorts a copy of the data to find the median, counts frequencies for the mode, and sums the values for the mean and sum. It also reports how many numbers you entered. The mean is the same calculation as an average.
Formula
Mean = Σx ÷ n; median = middle value (average of the two middle values when n is even); mode = most frequent value(s); sum = Σx.
xᵢ- Each number (number)
n- Count of numbers (count)
Examples
- 1, 2, 2, 3, 4, 4, 4, 5Values 1, 2, 2, 3, 4, 4, 4, 5Mean 3.125 · median 3.5 · mode 4 · sum 25 · count 8
Frequently asked questions
Is the mean the same as the average?
Yes. The arithmetic mean is what “average” usually means; the median and mode give a more robust view when the data contains outliers.
What if no value repeats?
The calculator reports “No mode” when every value occurs exactly once.
Can there be more than one mode?
Yes — a bimodal or multimodal set lists all values tied for the highest frequency.
How to read the result
Compare the mean and median: if they differ noticeably, the data is skewed and the median describes the typical value better.
Limitations
Summary statistics only; spread measures such as standard deviation and quartiles are separate calculators.
