How it works
Estimate an ideal body weight from four published height-based formulas plus their average.
Enter your sex and height. The calculator applies the Devine, Robinson, Miller, and Hamwi equations (all based on height above 5 feet) and reports each estimate plus the average.
Formula
Devine: men 50 + 2.3·(in − 60), women 45.5 + 2.3·(in − 60). Robinson: men 52 + 1.9·(in − 60), women 49 + 1.7·(in − 60). Miller: men 56.2 + 1.41·(in − 60), women 53.1 + 1.36·(in − 60). Hamwi: men 48 + 2.7·(in − 60), women 45.5 + 2.2·(in − 60).

Frequently asked questions
Which formula is best?
There is no single 'correct' formula. Each was derived for a different population; the average gives a useful middle ground.
Is ideal weight a medical target?
No. It is a rough population estimate. Body composition, muscle mass, and overall health matter more than a single number.
How to read the result
The four estimates usually span a range of a few kilograms. The average is a reasonable summary, not a personal prescription.
Limitations
Height-only formulas. They ignore age, frame size, muscle mass, and body composition. Not validated for children or very tall/short individuals.
